On August 10, 2007, R&B singer D'Angelo was found guilty of driving under the influence and driving with a suspended license, and was hit with a fine and a suspended jail sentence, all stemming from an automobile crash in Virginia two years ago. |

On September 19, 2005, R&B singer D'Angelo was traveling on a Virginia highway when the superstar lost control of his Hummer, hit a highway fence, and was ejected from the vehicle. Although he suffered bruised ribs and other minor injuries as a result of being thrown from the vehicle, D'Angelo was charged with driving under the influence and driving on a suspended license after field sobriety tests revealed the superstar to be intoxicated. This past Friday (August 10, 2007), the case against D'Angelo was finally concluded in Powhatan General District Court as the singer received numerous fines and penalties for both charges.
For the suspended license charge, Judge Paul Cella fined D'Angelo $1000 with $500 suspended, sentenced the star to 9 days in jail all suspended, and revoked his license for 90 days.
For the DUI charge, D'Angelo was fined $1500 with $750 suspended, received a 6 month jail sentence with all suspended for 2 years, and received a suspended license for 12 months.
D'Angelo first broke into the mainstream with the 1995 hit "Lady" from his debut album "Brown Sugar," and went on to release the 2000 hit album "Voodoo," which garnered the superstar 2 Grammy awards, Best R&B Album and Best Male R&B Vocal Performance.
