On August 15, 2007 and on the day of India's celebration of it's 60th year of independence, Bollywood bombshell and former Miss World Aishwarya Rai will be present in New York City. Before you attempt to catch the next flight out of town to New York City, Miss Rai-Bachchan will not be present in the flesh, but rather as a wax figure in Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum in New York City as the starlet will be honored as only the third figure from Bollywood to have a wax statue displayed at Madame Tussaud's.
Rai's model will be placed in the Opening Night Party section of the museum, and will only be on display in New York City for 6 weeks. The New York museum has arranged to display the model in New York City by borrowing the model from Madam Tussaud's in London, New York's parent museum. Although Aishwarya Rai will not be present at the unveiling of the statue, the local Indian community as well as visitors are encouraged to attend the ceremony, as Miss Rai has become a global celebrity. In addition to the already scheduled events in honor of India's independence, there will be a 15 minute dance exhibition to honor Miss Rai, performed by a local Bollywood dance group from New York City.
The only other Indian celebrities to be honored as wax figures at Madame Tussaud's are Amitabh Bachchan, Rai's father in-law, and Shah Rukh Khan, both immortalized at the London museum. In addition to Bolllwood stars, the London museum also houses wax figures of Mahatma Gandhi, Indira Gandhi, and Rajiv Ghandi. With regards to the New York museum, only Aishwarya Rai will hold the distinct honor of being the first Indian to be featured at Madam Tussaud's here in New York City.
