Bollywood star Salman Khan surrendered to Jodhpur Police today, after the Jodhpur Session Court issued a warrant for the superstar's arrest yesterday stemming from his 1998 arrest for illegally killing and poaching 2 wild bucks of the endangered Chinkara species during the filming of "Hum Saath Saath Hain."
The warrant for Salman's arrest was only issued after the superstar failed to appear in Jodhpur's Session Court yesterday. Salman's sister, Alvira Khan was present during the court hearing however, it was made known that Salman had in fact missed his flight to Jodhpur as he was in the process of filming for another movie in Hyderabad.
After the warrant was issued for his arrest, Salman and his brother, Sohail Khan took the first flight out of Hyderabad to Jodhpur this morning, at which time the Jodhpur Police department arrested Salman directly at the airport. Salman's lawyers have made it clear that they will file a revision petition in the Rajasthan High Court, seeking suspension of the 5 year prison sentence Salman is now facing.
The 5 year prison sentence for Salman is not suprising as the superstar has had his share of legal troubles in the past. In 2002, Salman Khan was arrested and charged with rash and negligent driving, as well as culpable homicide as the vehicle in which he was driving veered off of the road outside of a bakery in Bombay, killing one man and injuring three. Although Salman was reportedly under the influence of alcohol during the time of the accident, all charges were eventually dropped.
