Bollywood princess Rani Mukerjee is well known for her good girl roles in such films as "Kuch Kuch Hota Hai," Chalte Challte, " "Hum Tum," among others, however it seems as if the 29 year old is preparing to challenge herself with a role all too common in India, the role of prostitute. In two films releasing back to back on October and November 2007, be prepared to see Rani in a serious role reflecting the realities of thousands of women in India.
In October 2007, Yash Raj Films will release "Laaga Chunari Mein Daag," a film based on a middle class girl who decides to take on prostitution. Alongside Rani in the film, which was interestingly produced by Rani's boyfriend Aditya Chopra, will be Abhishek Bachchan, Jaya Bachcan, Anupam Kher, Kirron Kher, and Konkona Sen Sharma.
Rani will continue her role as prostitute in Sanjay Lee Bhansali's "Saawariya," set to release in November 2007. The film will be released by Sony Pictures, making it the first Indian film in history to be produced by an American company. "Saawariya" will feature Ranbir Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor in the leading roles however, Rani Mukerjee will appear in the film as a supporting actress.
