Amitabh Bachchan, who is arguably the greatest actor to come out of India, has had countless, unforgettable, classic Hindi films. While his films have remained mostly for the Indian audience, the Big B may cross the cultural boundaries very soon and appear in an upcoming American thriller, with an Al Queda plot, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Russel Crowe.
Filmmaker Ridley Scott, whom Bachchan met in 2003 during the Marrakech Film Festival in Morocco, reportedly offered Bachchan a role in the 2005 "Kingdom of Heaven," a role Bachchan turned down. For his upcoming thriller "Body Of Lies," Scott has once again asked Amitabh Bachchan to appear in his film, this time in the role of a Jordanian.
In a recent interview with a prominent Indian newspaper, Bachchan admitted that without a script, it would be difficult to accept the role: "Ridley Scott wants me to play a part of the Jordanian in the film. I've asked for more details. I need to see the script before I take a call."
Bachchan also joked, explaining that as big of a star as he is in India, the audience may not pay much attention to him in the presence of such great American actors: "Let's be realistic. Who will notice me when DiCaprio and Crowe are in the same film?!"
"Body of Lies," a thriller based on an Al Queda plot, will feature Russel Crowe as a manipulative CIA boss, who teams up with DiCaprio, an ex journalist turned CIA operative, in order to catch an Al Queda leader. The filming of "Body of Lies" will begin in the fall of 2007.
