MTV's Top 10 Hottest MC's List - Are They Serious?

After reading over MTV's hottest mc's in the game list, I came to the realization that MTV's "braintrust" judges must have been highly intoxicated in compiling their list, so in this discussion, HHPulse breaks down why we disagree with some of their choices, as well as breaks down its own Top 10 MC's in the game right now.

So the streets are buzzing, or better yet yawning, over MTV's so called "Top 10 MC's" in the game right now list, and although I have much respect for MTV and their journalism and musical prowess, the list they compiled was questionable.  The industry doesn't even have 10 MC's that are really doing anything major for the game or themselves, yet somehow they were able to compile their list after considerable debate?   Some of MTV's choices I agree with, others make me question how intoxicated these "braintrust" judges were, but let's get down to it, and break down MTV's Top 10 MC's in the game list, MC by MC, and if you're favorite MC gets the beatdown by HHPulse, don't get your g-strings all tied up........

10.  Jim Jones - Huh?  The last time Jimmy really threw down on a track that shook the industry up was 2006's "We Fly High," I mean who the hell wasn't bumpin' that last fall?  That's right, last fall, and what has Jimmy really done since then?  Absolutley nothing, unless you count 3 remixes to the same track anything.  Jimmy is a business man more than an MC, and as of now with all of the beef surrounding himself and Cam'ron, Jimmy knows its better to lay back than to overly involve himself in the industry where every journalist is dying to know the latest gossip surrounding the Dipset beef.  1 hit single from 2006, a few guest appearances, and basically playing the background during the ridiculous Cam'ron/50 Cent beef does not qualify Jimmy to be in my 14 year old cousin's list, let alone MTV's, sorry but Jim Jones is a NO for the Top 10 list.

9.  Common - Agreed.  Common is inarguably one of the few handful of MC's that has been consistent throughout his entire career.  Although he hasn't had the success of say a 50 Cent, Common's lyrics and content easily carry him above most of the industry's hottest superstars in the game.  Rather than focusing on what seems to be the era of hit singles and ringtones, Common's proven time and time again that lyrical substance can carry an MC farther than any hit single, thus providing Common with a comfortable 15 year career.   And with the  upcoming release of "Finding Forever,"  an album which critics are already calling one of the best rap albums to come out in a long time, Common is an easy choice as  one of the hottest mc's in the game.

8.  50 Cent - Agreed.  Everyone's favorite industry bully might not be on his "Power of a Dollar" days, but no one can deny 50's impact in the industry whenever a new single drops, or word gets out that a new video will be hitting the airwaves.  50's "Amusement Park" was nothing more than the sequel to "Candyshop," and "Straight 2 The Bank" could have been seen as 50's best track of 2007, but with the release of the hit single "I Get Money," 50 proved that if pushed to supply the industry with a true hit single, we shouldn't doubt the G-Unit general.

7.  Jay Z - Huh?  Okay, now I know some of you are thinking, how the hell can you say no to Jay when he's HHPulse's Greatest of All Time MC?  Well the answer is very simple and has to do with the title of the list, "Top 10 MC's" in the game RIGHT NOW.  Jay Z is the GOAT, but at this very moment in time, Jay is not one of the hottest MC's in the game.  Yes, Jay Z's 2006 "Kingdom Come" album was a commercial success, but since then what has Jay really done?  The last track that Jay appeared on was "Big Spender" with Freeway, and the track's popularity was as short lived as Lil Wayne's height, but that doesn't qualify Jay as being a hot MC in the game.  Now granted, if Jay really wanted to, he could easily pick apart your favorite rapper, but Jay's on his executive tip right now, being the President of Def Jam has taken priority over blessing the mic.

6.  Young Jeezy - Agreed.  Mr. Snowman himself has arguably been of the few MC's to truly maintain a consistent level of success throughout his career, which began in 2001 with the overly annoying "Yeaaahhh" and "That's Riiggghhht" adlibs, but which helped carry the young mc into stardom.  With the likes of 50, Jeezy has a very loyal fanbase following, and with the hit releases "Go Getta," "Dreamin," as well as USDA's "Corporate Thuggin" Jeezy has proven that he can deliver hit singles, and therefore is easily one of the hottest MC's in the game right now.

5.  Kanye West - Agreed.  Kanye West in the hottest MC's debate?  Yes, and rightfully so because the "Luis Vuitton Don" could easily merk the majority of the rappers in the game right now.  Outside of being arguably the most influential producer since Dr. Dre, Kanye West has also proven that getting behind the mic for some lyricism is not a problem, as his latest 2 releases "Can't Tell Me Nothing," and "Stronger," have proven Kanye to be a true and consistent lyricist.  In our opinion, Kanye should have been higher on the list, but nonetheless Kanye West is the true musical package, the production speaks for itself, and Kanye's lyrics speak for themselves, easily placing him as one of the hottest mc's in the game.

4.  Andre 3000 - Huh?  In regards to Andre being number 4 on the list, the only thoughts that came to my mind were, "WTF?"  Again, in the likes of Jay-Z, Andre has shown over the years that he can flow with the best of them, but right now, in 2007, Andre has been nowhere to be found except for his appearance in the movie and on the "Idlewild" soundtrack, a few guest appearances on remix tracks, and now his latest appearance on UGK's "International Player's Anthem."  Unquestionably Andre 3000 is a dope MC, but as of now and at this very moment in 2007, he hasn't shown us or the industry that he deserves to be on the list, sorry Andre but this list is not for you.

3.  The Game - Huh?.  The industry's #1 name dropper sits at the #3 position, and although we do not question whether or not he deserves to be on the list, we cannot believe that MTV would place The Game in such a high position.  The Game's last real street single was for the subpar "Wouldn't Get Far," a track which took aim at some of the industry hottest video vixens, but failed to prove Game's superiority as a lyricist.  As of now, if The Game were to drop a single for the streets, not a mixtape cut, but a real commercial single, we are confident that it would get the streets buzzing, but until that happens, we cannot place The Game at such a high position.  At this point in time, it seems as The Game has taken a hiatus, and until he hits the streets with some heat,  he only deserves to be on the list, not at the number 3 position.

2.  T.I. - Agreed.  Who could argue for TI not being on the list at such a high position?  T.I. consistently makes hit singles and street anthems, and has proven time and time again why he is the true King of the South.  Yea, the boy sits at 5'9 and about 145lbs, but his lyrics and musical content are those of a true giant, and with the release of "T.I. vs T.I.P," 480, 000 fans couldn't be wrong as album moved that many units in its opening week.  Whenever T.I. drops a single, it shakes up the industry, and with a proven track record as T.I's, we are confident that he has a long time before he ever falls off the radar, so T.I. at the number 2 position is an easy choice and decision.

1.  Lil Wayne - Agreed.  Ahhh yes, I know the Lil Wheezies around the world couldn't wait for an official list to name their holy savior as the hottest MC in the game, but is Lil Wayne really deserving of the number 1 spot?  We don't think so, in fact we would prefer to see T.I. as the hottest mc in the game rignt now, and the reason being the difference between the two superstars.  While T.I. continues to prove himself by releasing his own street singles and videos, Lil Wayne has made it a habit of appearing on other artists' tracks, and this fact alone cannot allow Weezy F. Baby to hold the number 1 position.  We believe that in order for an artist to truly be the hottest MC in the game, he/she has to release their own material, their own singles/videos, regardless of how how hot the 8-16 bars were on the next man's track.  Yes, Weezy is a hot MC however, in comparison to T.I. and his accomplishments, Lil Wayne at the number 1 position is highly questionable.

So there you have it, the official HHPulse breakdown of MTV's "Top 10 Hottest MC's" in the game right now list.  If your favorite MC got dissed, or there's something you don't agree about let us know what you think below.  And just for the hell of it, we compiled our own list by rearranging MTV's Top 10, check it out below........
