Does anyone remember the times, just a few years ago, when hiphop was about the music?  Where discussions revolved around who had the hottest summer anthem, and who the flyest street single?  Well, if anyone is a fan of hiphop, you already know those days are long gone, and what do we have now?  "Ohh man, you heard that new diss track against so and so!!??"  "Yea I heard MC Bustagun gonna bust that rapper's head wide open son!!"  WTF is up with the industry these days, not a day goes by without some other rapper getting on the radio dissin' some other rapper.  Is it even about the music anymore?  Well for those of you that love to keep up with the latest industry beefs, this issue is for you.  Here at HHPulse, we've listed some of the industry beefs that might interest you for 2007, so lets get to the proceedings.

1.  Tru Life vs Dipset - Late last year, the Dipset Camp, in particular Jim Jones and Cam'ron were heavily involved with their fued with Def Jam exec. and legendary rapper Jay-Z.  For those that are not familiar with the story, Jay-Z had a problem with the Dipset Camp while they were briefly signed to the Rocafella label in 2003.  Sources close to the story state that there was always friction between the 2 sides, in particular between Jay-Z and Cam'ron.  Many believe that the deciding factor in the Rocafella split was the decision by co-CEO of Rocafella Records Dame Dash to promote Cam'ron to Vice President of the label without discussing the matter with Jay.  Fast forward to late 2005.

In October of 2005, Jay-Z was scheduled to do a concert entitled "I Declare War," in which many thought Jigga would air out some of his industry enemies, such as newcomer The Game and of course Cam'ron.  To everyone's surprise, Jay decided not to go through with his plans, and turned the concert into a unity event, bringing the likes of Nas to the stage.  The streets never stop talking, and when word got to the Dipset camp that the concert was originally designed for them to get blasted on, Cam'ron made no hesitations as he and the rest of Dipset began laying out diss track after diss track against Jay.

In early 2007, while in the midst of his beef with the Dipset Camp, Jay signed "Tru Life," an artist who already had a reputation as being an industry thug, stemming from his robbery attempt on Mobb Deep several years prior.  Tru Life wasted no time in taking to the front lines for his boss, and began taking his own shots at the Dipset Camp, especially Jim Jones and Cam'ron, with his "Tru York" mixtape, a compilation of freestyle tracks and skits aimed at embarrassing the Dipset duo.

Although much of the exchange of words and insults has since slowed down, as recently as April, the streets were buzzing about Tru Life's assault on Cam'ron outside of a NY club.  Several independent eyewitnesses, including Power 105's Ed Lover, confirmed the assault, while Cam'ron suspiciously decided to go on a few weeks vacation, unable to confirm or deny the reports.  Come on Cam, who you think you foolin' with that one?

2.  50 Cent vs Cam'ron - We all know 50 Cent is no stranger to the "beef" arena, as he has had highly publicized fueds with Ja Rule, Fat Joe, Jadakiss, Styles P, Nas, and The Game.  The beef that erupted between 50 and Cam'ron on February 1, 2007 however was a complete shock to many, as no-one had ever heard of any tensions between G-Unit and Dipset.  While 50 was on the air on Hot 97's Angie Martinez Show, Cam'ron called the station and began arguing with the G-Unit general over 50's statements that Koch Records, the home of Dipset, was the "graveyard."  After a several minute shouting match in which Cam taunted 50 by saying such things as "How much did Banks sell?  How much did the Mobb sell Curtis, " the entire rap industry was shocked and surprised as to why Cam had decided to instigate a fued with 50 Cent, a fued that apparently fellow label mate Jim Jones wanted no part of.  Jimmy was quick to call the radio station to assure the listeners that he had no intentions of getting involved with a fued with G-Unit, and that everyone was entitled to their own opinions.

It didn't take 50 long to respond to Cam'ron, as within less than a week, 50 would unleash a video for the track "Funeral Music," a track solely intended to add fuel to the 50/Cam fire.  For those of you who've been living underneath a rock for the past 6 months, heres the video/diss track "Funeral Music."

Of course Cam'ron would be quick to respond with his own diss track aimed at 50, entitled "Curtis," 50's government name, in which he made fun of 50's decision to shoot the video from his Connecticut home, claiming that "Anyone can shoot a video in their backyard."

As the months have gone on, it has become clear that no-one in the Dipset Camp wants to involve themselves into this fued.  While 50 has maintained his composure, and has continued to move forward with his various ventures, it seems that Cam'ron is the one who is losing the battle.  Not only has Cam suspiciously gone into hiding after the alleged beatdown he took from Tru Life, but Cam released a video response to 50 a day after 50 appeared on 106 & Park in May. Standing beside a pool in his vacation home, complete in a wife beater and boxer shorts,  Cam'ron explained that  "When I get back it's gonna be a hot summer for everyone in NYC!," while 50 countered by saying "He [Cam'ron] shouldn't be in front of no camera with daisy dukes on."

Many believe that Cam's antics have caused the highly publicized division within the Dipset Cam, especially with co-CEO Jim Jones, who has managed to keep out of the fued.

3.  50 Cent vs The Game - Yes, our dear friend The Game managed to rekindle his distaste for 50 Cent and G-Unit this past April by releasing a diss track entitled "Body Bags," after Tony Yayo's alleged beatdown of Jimmy Hencheman's 14 year old son.  Also, oh forget it, the industry is tired of The Game diss tracks against the Unit, boring!

4.  Scott Storch vs Timbaland - In February of 2007, rumors were buzzing that Timbaland had issues with another producer in the industry, Scott Storch.  The rumors were confirmed to be true after Timbaland made an appearance on MTV, explaining that the lyrics in the track "Give It To Me," featuring Nelly Furtado and Justin Timberlake, were indeed directed at Scott Storch:  "I'm a real producer, you just the piano man, I get a half a mil' for my beats, you get a couple grand."  After seeing Timbaland on MTV, Storch quickly fired back with his own diss track/video entitled "Built Like That."

After the video was released, Timbaland answered back with another track, "Piano Man," which was performed by Mosley Music Group artist D.O.E.  In the track, D.O.E. claims "Beyonce straight dissed you, Dre dismissed you, heard Lil Kim say you got little dick issues."  Scott has yet to respond to the track but has always maintained that he was solely responsible for the production of the 2002 smash hit "Cry Me a River," (a track for which Storch was allegedly given a basket of fruit), while Timbaland has said that Scott Storch is nothing more than a "pianist," who's production (use of the distinctive piano key sound) is a carbon copy of legendary producer Dr. Dre.  Didn't think producers got to the beefin' did ya?

5.  LL Cool J vs Jay -Z/Def Jam - The so called "beef" between LL Cool J and Jay-Z is not necessarily a beef that Jay is apart of, in this case, LL Cool J has made it clear, on several different occassions, that he is not happy with Jay-Z and his handling of the various issues regarding Def Jam.  Many believe that LL Cool J is simply jealous of Lyor Cohen's decision to promote Jay-Z to President of Def Jam, a label which LL Cool J helped launch in the mid 80's.

In a new track entitled "Queens" (check it out here on HHPulse), LL Cool J unleashes a few lines believed to be aimed at the Jigga man himself:  " I miss the ol' Def Jam, cause them new monkey's act like they don't know who I am.  The promotion and marketing wasn't worth a damn, now they on my balls again cause 50 my man?"  Although nothing has been made regarding LL's problems with Jay, he has already explained that his final album, "The 13," ready for release in September 2007, will be his last for Def Jam.

6.  Young Buck vs DJ Khaled - Oh yes, how could we end an article on industry beefs and not include a G-Unit member?  A few weeks ago, while appearing on BET's Rap City, DJ Khaled, who coincidentally is part of Fat Joe's Terror Squad click, explained that he would never work with anyone from G-Unit because of their lack of unity and the way they treat artists outside of their own camp.  Young Buck was quick to respond to DJ Khaled, and in an exclusive track entitled "I'm Not Gonna Play With Yall," Young Buck aims directly at Khaled with such lines as "Maybe Fat Joe tellin' you not to fuck with the Unit, you can't ban me from no radio or DJ, while you takin' over the city, I'm takin' over the state."

The beef between Young Buck and Khaled will, most likely, settle down fairly quickly.  The real issue at hand is 50's problems with Fat Joe, which stem from Joe's decision to appear on the 2005 Ja Rule track "New York," during the time of 50's highly publicized fued with Murder Inc.  Although both 50 and Fat Joe took shots at each other, their fued has settled down as well.  For all you dreamers out there however, don't expect them to be in the same studio any time soon.

Well, there you have it, HHPulse's 2007 Industry Beef Review.  Of course, there are plenty more artists runnin' off at the mouth against their rivals that we could have written about, but we felt that the list presented was enough to keep you occupied for the months to come, enjoy the rest of 2007!
