Arsenal & Liverpool snubbed by Bayern Munich winger over summer transfer

Image
Bayern Munich winger Leroy Sane is reported to have rejected approaches from both Arsenal and Liverpool in favour of extending his stay in the Bundesliga. Sane's current contract expires this summer and it was claimed earlier in the season that, as part of Bayern's desire to part ways with at least one winger, he could be sacrificed after failing to hold down a regular spot in Vincent Kompany's starting lineup. Free to be approached by clubs, Sane has received interest from Arsenal, whose manager, Mikel Arteta, worked with the German at Manchester City. Manchester United were speculatively linked and reports of interest from Liverpool emerged earlier this year. In the face of the interest in his services, Sane is believed to have agreed an extension with Bayern. Christian Falk notes the winger has snubbed Arsenal and Liverpool in favour of tying himself to the Bundesliga champions-elect until 2028. Sane is thought to have agreed to a significant pay cut to secure his cont...

Alan Shearer names five teams who will challenge Liverpool for the title next season

Image
Alan Shearer insists Liverpool won’t have it easy next season if they retain the Premier League title with a number of improving sides set to challenge. The Reds lifted their 20th English top-flight title on Sunday by beating Tottenham 5-1 and making it impossible for Arsenal to catch them this season. Liverpool have looked likely to win the Premier League title for months and, with four games to spare, the Reds are one of the earliest teams to win it. Second-placed Arsenal have struggled to get close to Liverpool since the turn of the year but former Newcastle United striker Shearer “would be amazed” if the Reds had it so easy next season. Shearer said on The Rest is Football podcast: “I would be amazed if Liverpool won it as easily next season. I don’t see that happening at all. “There are so many teams waiting to improve, Arsenal being one, Man City being another, Newcastle and Aston Villa as well. Chelsea are another one. “There are so many teams that are willing and have to ...

Red and White Cooperatives to boost rural economic independence

Image
Deputy Minister of Cooperatives Ferry Juliantono emphasized that the Red and White Village Cooperative program offers a solution to improve the village economy without burdening the state budget. In a statement here on Wednesday, Juliantono underlined that the program is designed to create a new, mutually beneficial economic ecosystem in villages as well as eliminate the predatory practices of loan sharks and online lenders that harm village communities. Through Presidential Instruction Number 9 of 2025, the government targets the establishment of 80 thousand village cooperatives by July 2025, with operations of those cooperatives targeted to start in September 2025. The operational budget, estimated at Rp5 billion (around US$296,163) per cooperative, will come from a mix of the state budget, regional budgets, village funds, and banks. "This is not a burden but an investment for asset redistribution and economic equality," he remarked. The village cooperatives will carry ...

Scientists Discover Evidence of Dinosaur Catastrophe Imprinted in DNA of Modern Birds

Image
The catastrophic event that ended the reign of the dinosaurs 66 million years ago left an indelible mark on Earth’s history. While the non-avian dinosaurs vanished, their legacy endured in a surprising way. Modern birds, the distant relatives of those ancient giants, carry within their DNA the story of that cataclysmic event. Scientists have uncovered these genetic imprints, offering new insights into how this mass extinction shaped the evolution of today’s birds. A Global Extinction Event The asteroid impact, known as the Cretaceous-Paleogene extinction, wiped out 76% of all animal life on Earth. This massive loss of biodiversity created a vacuum in ecosystems, allowing the survivors to diversify rapidly. Among these survivors were the ancestors of modern birds, who would evolve into the diverse array of species we see today. The Rise of Avian Ancestors In the aftermath of the extinction, the earliest ancestors of today’s birds began to emerge. These avian dinosaurs underwent si...

Three fresh Liverpool contract offers tabled as trio face summer exit pressure

Image
Liverpool boss Arne Slot is preparing key talks with several players before the start of preseason training this summer. The Reds are on course to clinch the Premier League title in the coming weeks and Slot will then quickly turn his focus to planning for the 2025/26 campaign. With Mohamed Salah and club captain Virgil van Dijk tied down to contract extensions, Slot has completed his two most important pieces of transfer business, with the Dutch coach keeping the door open for Trent Alexander-Arnold. The England international has again dodged questioned over his future, as his present contract expires in June, with the 26-year-old weighing up a free transfer offer from Real Madrid. That saga could roll on into the final weeks of May, but Slot is planning for all eventualities, with Darwin Nunez and Caoimhin Kelleher both tipped to leave. Nunez has struggled to make a consistent impact on Slot's plans this season, and has been linked with a move to Atletico Madrid or former side ...

Arsenal's star man squares up to Real Madrid rival Jude Bellingham in the Gunners' epic Champions League win

Image
England team-mates Jude Bellingham and Declan Rice were involved in a heated confrontation during Arsenal's Champions League win over Real Madrid on Wednesday night. Rice had been the star of the show in last week's first leg, scoring two stunning free-kicks to hand Arsenal a 3-0 win and put them in complete control of the quarter-final tie heading into the return match at the Bernabeu. He won his head-to-head battle against Bellingham at the Emirates, and got the better of the Real Madrid star again in Spain. But Bellingham refused to go down without a fight, and the pair were seen squaring up to each other in the first half as they jostled for the ball near the halfway line. However, it was actually an incident inside the opening three minutes that appeared to upset Bellingham, as he was knocked to the floor by Rice on the edge of the box, who regained possession while the referee waved play on. Bellingham appeared stunned at losing his first physical battle with Rice, and ...

Paez is currently undertaking an acclimatisation process. At this stage, the plan is for Paez to be part of the Club World Cup squad selected by Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca. It has not been decided yet whether a loan to Strasbourg is on the cards. The Blues intend to recall Djordje Petrovic and Andrey Santos, while the plan is for Mathis Amougou to spend 2025/26 with Strasbourg. However, should the west Londoners and Strasbourg both end up in the same European competition, BlueCo 22 would put the latter in a blind trust, allowing both to sti...

Bellingham’s temper puts his Real Madrid image at risk

Image
Jude Bellingham may be one of the brightest stars at Real Madrid, but his fiery temperament is starting to draw unwanted attention. While his time at Borussia Dortmund was marked by brilliance on the pitch, it was also shadowed by stories of tension within the squad—his confrontational attitude and impulsive outbursts reportedly left a sour taste among teammates. Since arriving in Spain, he’s gone from the golden boy who won hearts with his gestures of humility to a player whose emotional outbursts now concern both fans and club officials. Incidents involving referees, VAR systems, and even teammates like Vinicius Jr. have stained his image, raising questions about whether the club’s emotional engine is beginning to overheat. Despite these behavioral concerns, Bellingham remains essential on the pitch, contributing 13 goals and 13 assists in 41 appearances this season. His blend of technique, intelligence, and leadership is invaluable to Madrid’s midfield. However, his growing f...

Leverage tourism as economic defense against US tariffs

Image
The tourism sector could serve as a potential national economic defense for Indonesia in response to external pressures resulting from trade tariffs imposed by the US government, Tourism Minister Widiyanti Putri Wardhana stated. Wardhana made the remarks in response to US President Donald Trump's reciprocal tariff policy on imported products from several countries, including Indonesia. Wardhana noted in a statement on Saturday that in the face of high tariffs on exports, Indonesia can capitalize on the tourism sector's vast potential as a significant source of foreign exchange that is not subject to trade barriers. "By attracting more foreign tourists, we can maintain the stability of the rupiah and foreign exchange reserves," she affirmed. Hence, Wardhana urged stakeholders in the tourism sector to focus on three main strategies in navigating the challenges of global trade dynamics. The first strategy involves positioning the tourism sector as a balancing service ...
