Flamengo Savage Chelsea and Cole Palmer After Club World Cup Victory
Chelsea were shocked by Brazilian side Flamengo in their FIFA Club World Cup match on Friday. The game at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia promised to be a good one with both sides winning their opening group games, and it did not disappoint at all.
The Blues were on course to take all three points when Pedro Neto broke the deadlock after just 13 minutes and they retained their lead going into half-time. But Chelsea capitulated after the break as Flamengo scored three unanswered goals to take victory.
Two goals from Bruno Henrique and Danilo just after the hour-mark gave Flamengo the lead. Chelsea were then reduced to 10-men when Nicolas Jackson was shown a straight red card just four minutes after coming on, and Flamengo sealed all three points when Wallace Yan put the game beyond all doubt with seven minutes remaining.

It was a huge victory for the Brazilian side, who have now confirmed their spot in the knockout rounds of the competition. Flamengo's X account was ecstatic following the match but they may have got a little carried away as they mocked their opponents, their fans and Cole Palmer.
Flamengo found a post from Chelsea which read 'the lion's always king.' The Brazilian side replied: 'When the lion dies, the vulture becomes king' accompanied by an image of a vulture, the club mascot, standing on the lion which features on Chelsea's crest.
They then called Chelsea 'a small neighbourhood in London' in response to a Chelsea fan who commented 'your tears will be beautiful at half-time'.
They then continued to mock Chelsea as they created two posts which referencing the Disney Pixar movie 'A Bug's Life'.
And they even mocked Chelsea's star player, Palmer, as they posted an image of the weather forecast with the caption: 'Too hot for "Cold Palmer"'.
The posts have all since been deleted.
Filipe Luis Praises Flamengo After Overcoming Chelsea
He said he was surprised by the results
South American sides have been mightily impressive in this year's Club World Cup. None of the South American sides competition had tasted defeat until Boca Juniors were defeated by Bayern Munich on Friday evening.
Flamengo manager Filipe Luis, who briefly played for Chelsea, praised his side following the match. He said, per Reuters: "I am very happy with the game. From the start, we always believed we had a chance.
"I know the quality of European clubs, especially the elite of football. There are 12 clubs in the world that are part of the elite. I'm surprised by these results. They are not very used to the (hot and humid) climate. South Americans are very competitive, in the Libertadores it's very difficult to win, but the best doesn't always win."
Flamengo play their final group game against Los Angeles FC knowing a point will be enough to see them top the group. Chelsea need to avoid defeat against Espérance Tunis to book their spot in the next round.
