New Nick Woltemade update could have Liverpool on alert
Nick Woltemade has already left a few breadcrumbs of his Liverpool affiliation, and any transfer stories regarding his future may be of particular interest for Reds fans.
In a fan Q&A earlier this season, the Newcastle striker was asked which away ground he was most desperate to experience in the Premier League – and he didn’t hesitate before naming Anfield.
That fondness runs deeper than a one‑off answer too, because when Woltemade was pressed on his favourite Premier League player of all time, he swerved the usual Cristiano Ronaldo shout and instead picked Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard.
He also stated that facing Virgil van Dijk would be the toughest assignment of his Premier League career, singling out the Liverpool captain’s physicality and dominance as the ultimate test for a number nine. Put together, you have a striker who openly adores Anfield, idolises a Reds icon and views Liverpool’s defensive leader as the benchmark – hardly the usual profile of a long‑term Newcastle talisman.
And now it looks his situation at St James’ Park is not exactly watertight despite only signing months ago.
Alex Crook of talkSPORT has reported that the Magpies would be open to selling the German international should a big enough fee be put in front of them:
Newcastle would be willing to sell Nick Woltemade at the right price, talkSPORT understands.”
“Woltemade has been reported to be unhappy at the Magpies, despite only signing for the club six months ago.”
“Reports are also suggesting that Woltemade could be heading for a return to his home nation.”
“Bayern Munich competed with Newcastle for his signature last summer, just missing out on the frontman in the end.”
“Newcastle would be willing to sell if the price is right, but what that price is may end up being too much for Hoeness again.”
The news comes after after a playful exchange on Instagram with Hugo Ekitike, who Newcastle missed out on before turning to Woltemade as their record signing. Ekitike dropped a handshake emoji under Woltemade’s latest post and the German quickly pinned the comment, a tiny gesture that also caught the attention of Reds fans.
