Everything seemed to be going swimmingly for "The Herons" after Luis Suárez opened the scoring in the 16th minute at NU Stadium against the Columbus Crew, a clash that was beginning just as had been expected beforehand, since the Florida team had twice as many points as their rival and, therefore, was the clear favorite. 

But the story began to go wrong in the 34th minute, with Casemiro as the main protagonist of the small debacle for Lionel Messi's team, who was watching it from the bench. The Brazilian tried to play out from the center of defense with a long, vertical pass, but its path, very telegraphed and lacking power, was intercepted by Hugo Picard, who quickly moved the ball to the right for Taha Habroune to receive it, and he sent a cross into the middle of the box and Casemiro, in his eagerness to intercept the pass, threw himself to the ground and put the ball into his own net.

The Brazilian international had to be encouraged by his teammates after the own goal, as he was the main "culprit" behind the temporary equalizer due to his double error in a matter of just a few seconds.

In the second half, and already leading 2-1, Messi came on, making his return to the team after the World Cup, and Casemiro was able to enjoy the pleasure of playing alongside the Argentine, the reason why he turned down multiple offers with better salaries.

Although the night was going to get even worse for Casemiro, since from a foul he committed in the 82nd minute, for which he was shown a yellow card, came the Crew's definitive equalizer through the Spaniard Brais Méndez.
