Eagles would be honored to visit the White House to celebrate Super Bowl win

Image
The Philadelphia Eagles would be honored to visit the White House in celebration of their Super Bowl LIX win, a source with the team told CNN after rumors swept social media that the team had declined the traditional visit. Contrary to reports, the invitation has not yet been extended to the team, the source said. “We would be honored to visit the White House,” the source with the Eagles said. “It’s one of the things we had looked forward to doing and we look forward to receiving the invitation.” The Eagles defeated the Kansas City Chiefs earlier this month in a blowout to win the franchise’s second Super Bowl championship. When the team won its first championship in 2018, the Eagles decided not to celebrate the championship with President Donald Trump, who was in his first term in office at that point. The decision sparked a storm of criticism from Trump, who falsely accused the Eagles of taking a knee during “The Star-Spangled Banner” that year and disrespecting the National Anthem ...

Image
The University of Arizona apologized after a portion of the team’s fanbase sang an “unacceptable chant” directed towards Brigham Young University (BYU) following the Wildcats’ men’s basketball team’s defeat at the hands of the Cougars on Saturday. Videos on social media appear to show Arizona fans chanting “F**k the Mormons” after the 96-95 loss. “Following tonight’s men’s basketball game, it was brought to our attention that an unacceptable chant occurred,” Arizona’s athletic director Desireé Reed-Francois said in a statement. “On behalf of the University of Arizona Athletic Department, we apologize to BYU, their student-athletes, coaches and fans. The chant is not reflective of who we are and should not have happened.” When contacted by CNN for comment, BYU said the recent behavior from opposing fans “crossed a line,” while also highlighting that there are members of the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints outside of Utah. “We would hope that more people could see t...

Indonesian govt's key programs to drive economic growth in 2025

Image
With no national events this year, the Indonesian government’s priority programs could drive domestic economic growth, an adviser to President Prabowo Subianto stated on Thursday. Bambang Brodjonegoro, Special Adviser to the President for Economic Affairs and National Development, stated that Indonesia was able to achieve economic growth of 5.03 percent last year. This was driven by consumption and spending related to the legislative and presidential elections in the first half of 2024, as well as regional head elections in the second half, he added. “So, what will happen in 2025? There will be no local or national elections this year,” Brodjonegoro remarked. He noted that the only potential drivers for this year's economic growth would be annual religious events, such as Ramadan, Eid al-Fitr, as well as Christmas and New Year celebrations. “That’s it. This means we must find new sources of growth, particularly from a consumption perspective. I haven’t even touched on investment ...

Image
The trade protectionism policies of United States President Donald Trump have opened opportunities for Indonesia to push up its gross domestic product (GDP), according to head of the National Economic Council (DEN), Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan. "Its effect on Indonesia's GDP will be potentially positive as it may increase our GDP percentage point by 0.8 percent," he informed at the Indonesia Economic Summit (IES) 2025 here on Tuesday. However, to achieve the increase, Indonesia must tap opportunities from global market relocations and increase foreign investment realization by ensuring ease of business, he said. The agency head further highlighted the greater potential for GDP increase when domestic businesses diversify their export markets to more partner countries. Meanwhile, despite President Trump intensifying protectionist policies, Indonesia-US relations remain stable, Pandjaitan affirmed. "President (Prabowo) has also developed a good rapport with President Tru...

He affirmed that the budget efficiency is targeting only those aspects that are considered non-substantial, such as working visits or ceremonial activities, therefore, the scholarship budget is intact and unaffected by the policy. Meanwhile, in response to university student demonstrations opposing the budget cuts, Fauzan described the protests as an integral part of Indonesia's democracy. "However, if they perceive the budget efficiency also targets substant...
